Warmth in the Midst of Winter: Join Us in the Winter Coat Project

Imagine a cold winter's night in Belfast. Rain pours relentlessly, the wind howls, and the chill in the air cuts deep. It's a scene all too familiar for many in our community, where the unforgiving weather can be a daunting challenge.

In these moments, a warm coat can be the difference between a difficult struggle and a glimmer of hope. It's a shield against the elements, a source of comfort, and a tangible expression of care from one human being to another. It's a reminder that, in our darkest hours, there are those who stand beside us, ready to offer warmth and support.

The Winter Coat Project: Extending a Hand of Warmth

In the spirit of compassion and community, we are delighted to announce the launch of the Winter Coat Project. This initiative holds great significance for us and aligns with our unwavering commitment to make a positive impact on the lives of those in our local community. As we prepare to embark on this meaningful journey, we extend an open invitation to all to join hands with us in spreading warmth, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.

A Collaborative Effort for a Worthy Cause

The Winter Coat Project is not a solitary endeavour. We are partnering with ROC (Redeeming Our Communities) and collaborating with various local groups to ensure that this initiative reaches its fullest potential. Our mission is clear: to make a lasting impact on our community and provide essential warmth during the winter months.

How Can You Play a Part?

Your involvement is pivotal to the success of the Winter Coat Project. Here's how you can contribute to this meaningful cause:

  1. Coat Donations: Do you have winter coats in good condition that you no longer need? Consider donating them. Your generosity can provide much-needed warmth to those who are less fortunate.
  2. Spread the Word: Share this news, talk to your friends and family, and encourage others to participate. Let's unite to inform as many people as possible about this incredible opportunity to make a difference.
  3. Volunteer: Volunteers are the heart and soul of this project. Whether you can spare some time in the morning or afternoon, your presence is invaluable. Volunteers will assist with sorting donations, setting up the pop-up shop, and providing support during the event.
  4. Provide Refreshments: If you have a heart for hospitality, consider providing refreshments for our hardworking volunteers and guests. Your warm welcome will be a source of comfort and encouragement.
  5. Donations of Plastic Bags: Good-sized plastic bags or reusable bags for life are needed for the distribution of coats. Your donations will ensure a smoother process.
  6. Clothes Rails and Mirrors: Spare clothes rails, hangers, or free-standing mirrors can make a significant difference in organising the event. If you have these items to spare, we would be deeply grateful.
What to Expect

As we anticipate the Winter Coat Project, we reflect on the exciting challenges faced last year, including long queues and even a coat-related skirmish in one of the churches. Such incidents were a testament to the quality of the products offered! We have learned from these experiences and are determined to make this year even better.

How Can You Help Now?

Here's what you can do to be part of this initiative:

  1. Reach out to us if you can help or know someone who would like to join us.
  2. Keep us in your prayers for the success of the event and for those who will attend.
  3. Spread the word about the Winter Coat Project, so those in need can benefit.
  4. Bring any good-quality coats you no longer need and encourage others to do the same.

Thank you for being part of our compassionate and caring community. Your support and participation can truly make a world of difference in the lives of those in need within our community. Together, let's bring warmth, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.

With immense gratitude and anticipation, we look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Opportunities To Gather and Grow || SPB NOTES || Coming up to Winter 2024

As we enter a season full of opportunities to gather and grow, I want to encourage everyone to participate in the life of our church. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.” Gathering is a vital part of our faith, and these events are designed to strengthen our fellowship, prayer life, and outreach efforts. Each event, whether it’s our community prayer meeting, the winter coat project, or the Advent services, is a chance for us to come together as the body of Christ, using the unique gifts God has given us. 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 highlights that we are all members of one body, and every part is needed to function as God intended. When we gather, pray, and support the church’s work, we not only bless each other but our entire community. I encourage you to engage deeply in these events and find where you can serve. Whether it’s helping ...

This Is the Hour – Join Us for Holy Week 2025 at St Paul’s & St Barnabas

This Is the Hour – Join Us for Holy Week 2025 at St Paul’s & St Barnabas, Belfast As we journey toward Easter this year at St Paul’s & St Barnabas in North Belfast, we invite you to take part in our Holy Week services under the theme “This Is the Hour.” This powerful phrase comes from John’s Gospel, where Jesus speaks of the appointed time—the hour—for which He came into the world. From Gethsemane to glory, Jesus moves with divine purpose toward the cross and the empty tomb. We are invited to walk with Him in that hour: to sit in the sorrow of betrayal, to receive the grace of service, to stand at the foot of the cross, and to rejoice at the dawn of resurrection. Our Holy Week reflections will follow the Gospel of John, focusing each evening on a key moment in Jesus’ journey. All services begin at 7:30 pm , and we warmly welcome you to come just as you are. Tuesday 15th April – 6:30pm Easter Community Prayer Walk Meeting at Salv...

Sermon || True Worship – John 12:1–8 || SPB Belfast

True Worship – John 12:1–8 | SPB Belfast True Worship – John 12:1–8 As we journey through Holy Week, we find ourselves in Bethany, just six days before the Passover, where Jesus is gathered with friends for a meal. Among them is Lazarus—recently raised from the dead—a quiet but powerful reminder of Jesus’ divine authority over life and death. In this setting, Mary responds not with words, but with worship. She breaks open a jar of costly perfume, pours it over Jesus’ feet, and wipes them with her hair. This extravagant act becomes a defining picture of what true worship looks like. In Sunday’s sermon, Rev. Andrew Irwin helped us explore the richness of this moment. Mary’s worship is more than emotion; it is the overflow of a heart transformed by grace. She had seen the power of Jesus firsthand when her brother Lazarus walked out of the tomb. Her act of worship ...
