Remembrance Sunday – Christ Our Peace
Ephesians 2:13–22 | Rev Tim Wright (Intercontinental Church Society)
On Sunday we gathered at St Paul’s & St Barnabas to mark Remembrance Sunday, giving thanks for those who gave their lives in service and sacrifice, and reflecting on the hope and peace we find in Jesus Christ. Our guest preacher was Rev Tim Wright from the Intercontinental Church Society (ICS), a former Royal Air Force chaplain who spoke from Ephesians 2:13–22 on the theme “Christ our Peace.”
Tim reminded us that through Christ, the dividing wall of hostility has been broken down. The apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians about how Jesus reconciles both Jew and Gentile, making one new humanity through the cross. In the same way, Christ continues to break down barriers today – between nations, between people, and within our own hearts.
Drawing on his experience in the RAF, Tim shared three pictures from Scripture and history: the bomber that breaks down what divides, the air traffic controller who brings the message of peace, and the builders who begin to rebuild when conflict ends. Each one points to the reconciling work of Christ – the One who destroys division, delivers His message of peace, and builds His people into a living temple where God dwells by His Spirit.
As we remembered those who fell, we were reminded that lasting peace is not achieved through war or diplomacy, but through the reconciling love of Jesus Christ. He is our peace – our hope in conflict, our unity in division, and our cornerstone for all time.
