Harvest Praise & Thanksgiving — Give Thanks, Bless the City
Sunday 29 September, 10:30am — St Paul’s & St Barnabas, 208 York Street, Belfast
This Sunday we gather for our Harvest Praise & Thanksgiving Service — a moment to pause, give thanks for God’s goodness, and renew our commitment to love our neighbours in practical ways. We are delighted to welcome Bishop Darran McCartney, Rector of St Paul’s, Lisburn, as our preacher. Music will be led by our choir and praise group, and there will be refreshments and treats afterwards for time together as a church family.
Gratitude and generosity belong together. While many of us have much to be thankful for, our city also knows real hardship. Current figures indicate that roughly one in five people in Northern Ireland live in relative poverty, and in some Belfast neighbourhoods child poverty rates are significantly higher than the regional average. Behind every statistic is a neighbour, a family, a story. Harvest reminds us that the Lord provides — and also calls His people to share. With that in view, our offering on Sunday will support the ongoing mission and ministry of SPB in North Belfast, and we are also gathering food for the Foodbank to help those who are finding this season especially difficult.
How You Can Take Part
- Bring non-perishables for the Foodbank: the usual Trussell Trust staples are ideal — tins (soup, meat, veg, tomatoes, fruit), pasta, rice, cereal, long-life milk and juice, tea/coffee, cooking sauces, and toiletries.
- Give in the Harvest offering: gifts help sustain our worship, discipleship, pastoral care, and community outreach across the parish.
- Help decorate the church: we’re setting up on Thursday 10:00–12:00 and Friday evening. If you can lend a hand for an hour, you’ll be very welcome.
Harvest is more than a date in the diary; it is a declaration that everything we have comes from God and is given so that we might be a blessing. We would love you to come — whether you are new to the city or have been here a lifetime — to give thanks with us and to join in this practical act of love for Belfast.
